🎢 HOLD ON TIGHT—Third Grade is on the Move! 🚀 Third grade is diving deeper into our exciting Unit 5 on Force and Motion! With the essential question, “How can we discover the effects of forces and motion through the engineering of a game?” guiding our exploration, students are putting their scientific thinking caps on to build their very own carnival-inspired creations. From planning to prototyping, they’re applying Newton’s Three Laws of Motion in hands-on ways—and it’s full STEAM ahead toward Exhibition Night!
Students also zoomed into the world of rockets and rollercoasters, exploring how energy, friction, gravity, and motion make these thrill rides tick. There’s no slowing down as our young engineers test, refine, and prepare to show off their games—it's going to be an exhilarating ride!
🪐 Mission to Mars: A STEAM Survival Challenge! After researching the terrain, climate, and challenges of space exploration, third graders were given an exciting mission: You are the first group of astronauts to set foot on the planet Mars. With no return ticket and only the rocky Martian landscape surrounding them, students were tasked with designing and building models of structures essential for human survival. Using creativity, collaboration, and engineering skills, they imagined entire colonies—complete with shelters, greenhouses, and energy sources. Their ideas were truly out of this world!
