Every School Day Counts: Why Attendance Matters |
|
|
“Missing just two days a month adds up to nearly 18 days a year—and that can set students back.”
Showing up to school every day is one of the most important ways children build strong learning habits. Even excused absences make it harder to keep up with reading, math, and friendships.
Why it matters:
- Elementary students need consistent routines to grow reading skills and classroom confidence.
- Middle schoolers who miss school regularly are more likely to struggle with engagement and readiness for high school.
- Being in school every day helps children develop healthy friendships, practice teamwork, and learn important social skills.
- Good attendance can help children do well in school and build lifelong skills for success in the future!
What Families Can Do: >> Build positive attendance habits early Set routines that help your student arrive on time—consistent bedtimes, morning preparation, and safe travel plans all make a big difference.
>> Keep an eye on patterns Missing just a few days regularly adds up. Even excused absences matter when they become frequent.
>> Strive to be on time Being late to school may lead to poor attendance. Tardiness can also affect the whole classroom environment.
When families and schools work together, children feel supported, connected, and ready to learn. Let’s help every child show up, learn, and thrive—because every day counts!
