2nd Grade with Mrs. Hinton

Second grade has been working hard as we kick off 2026 with excitement and purpose! Students spent time learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his lasting impact through a variety of articles and books. Inspired by his message, students wrote about their own dreams, which are now proudly displayed for our school community to enjoy.

In literacy, we are diving into our novel study of The Wild Robot. Through this engaging story, students are deepening their understanding of character development and how they respond to major events and challenges. This novel has sparked rich discussions, thoughtful writing, and curiosity about the natural world.

In math, we have begun a new unit on number lines. Students are building strong foundational skills as they practice and master adding and subtracting within 100 using this visual and hands-on approach. Group work has provided meaningful opportunities for students to learn from one another.

We are also enjoying a continued focus on putting first things first—not only during our LEAD time, but throughout each day on campus. Students are learning how prioritizing responsibilities, making thoughtful choices, and staying focused helps them succeed both academically and socially.

It has been a wonderful start to the new year in second grade. Teaching these sweet honeybees each day is truly a privilege, and I am incredibly proud to be their teacher as I watch them grow in confidence, kindness, and leadership. Their curiosity and enthusiasm remind me daily just how bright their futures are!
