| 6th Grade Math is Leveling Up! |
Our 6th-grade mathematicians have officially launched into Unit 6: Expressions and Equations... and let me tell you, they are not playing around!
This unit is packed with powerful concepts. Students are learning how to write expressions with variables, translate real-world situations into equations, and make sense of math relationships in ways that build serious long-term thinking skills. It is a big leap forward… and they are rising to it. Because this unit brings a lot of new learning, I've introduced a new tool in our classroom called Success Criteria. Think of it as a quick confidence checkpoint at the end of each lesson! Students keep a simple checklist in their workbook where they reflect on three things:
-Where do I feel confident? -Where am I still working? -Where am I completely stuck?
This small routine is making a big impact. Instead of waiting for a test to tell them how they’re doing, students are building the habit of self-assessing every single day! They’re identifying exactly where they need extra practice and recognizing where they’re ready to shine. Even better, when students feel confident in a skill, they are encouraged to step into leadership and help a classmate who may still be working through it. That’s the magic of being a leadership school!! We don’t just learn math, we take ownership, we reflect, and we lift others up! The Success Criteria checklist also gives me a quick, honest snapshot of where students are in their understanding, which helps me adjust instruction and target support right away. It’s a win for everyone.
We are so proud of how our 6th graders are embracing challenge, building resilience, and leading their own learning journey. Expressions and equations, here we come!!!

In February, we flexed our kindness muscles — toward ourselves and toward others. I am incredibly proud of the collective effort of our staff, parent volunteers, families, and students coming together for the greater good. Our food drive was a tremendous success, surpassing the six barrels provided! Stay tuned for the total pounds collected.
During lunch, our K-5 students played TAG — Kindness Style — practicing inclusion and encouragement. At TS, students created heartfelt cards to thank individuals who make a difference in their lives. We also surprised students with a fun face-painting session as a reminder that self-love can be joyful, colorful, and expressive.
Students were challenged to reflect on how our world becomes better through everyday acts of kindness.
In our recent 3-5 SEL lessons, students learned how to be socially responsible friends by choosing not to participate in gossip or spread rumors. Our K-3 students explored “big feelings” and practiced strategies to manage them, building strong self-regulation skills. It has been wonderful to see students apply these lessons beyond SOAR and into their daily interactions.
I am truly honored to witness the growth of self-awareness, empathy, and confidence in our students’ social-emotional development.
Thank you to our Elevate families, for partnering with me. Your support is deeply valued and appreciated.
