In Unit 3, our first graders explored our essential question: How can we use kindness, empathy, and thoughtful actions to create a community that is out of this world while embracing and celebrating each other's cultural differences and traditions?

Throughout this unit, students learned that service means caring for others through meaningful actions. We discussed empathy, appreciation, and how different community helpers serve us every day. Students reflected on the many ways people contribute to keeping our communities safe, healthy, educated, and strong.

As our culminating Project-Based Learning (PBL) experience, each first grade class created heartfelt Thank You Posters to honor members of our community — including military personnel, doctors, nurses, teachers, firefighters, and police officers. Students worked collaboratively to design posters filled with messages of gratitude, kindness, and appreciation.

We were even able to personally deliver some of their posters and take pictures with these incredible professionals. Other photos capture our students proudly showcasing their thoughtful creations.

We are so proud of the empathy, teamwork, and leadership our first graders demonstrated. They truly showed that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a BIG impact through service.

Our classroom community continues to grow stronger through compassion and gratitude.
